Hello everyone!
I hope you have all enjoyed our last long weekend for a while!
I really enjoyed seeing many of you at the UN Day celebration last Friday! Parents, thank you so much for your dedication in setting up those amazing display tables!! Students, thank you so much for your behavior!! I was very proud to be a Discovery School teacher last week!
The fun will continue this week--tomorrow is Book Character Day for the elementary students and the secondary students are encouraged to dress up in a Halloween Costume as well. There will be a parade of costumes and an awards ceremony at some point tomorrow!
Academically this is a 5-day week full of learning!
6th grade: Great job to all of you for remembering your Maya packets on Thursday! You will need your packets every day this week, so make sure you are keeping track of them! By now you should have pages 1-4 completed. We will work on page 5 on Monday, 5-6 on Tuesday, 6 on Wednesday and page 7 on Thursday. Your Ancient Maya Packet is due to be checked in class on Friday, November 4. (All "Extra Extra" pages and projects are due that day as well.) You will also have a mini-Maya quiz on that day, so come prepared with a sheet of paper with some notes on it. (I will not be posting review questions on the blog as we will have no formal review for this quiz).

7th grade: We are now settling into a pattern which I think will hold true for most of the rest of the school year: on Monday you will be reading and answering questions about West-Central Europe in the textbook, Tuesday the students with Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg will all present their projects, Wednesday you will be in the computer lab, Thursday you will be reading and answering questions about Northern Europe in the textbook, and Friday there will be presentations on Sweden, Ireland, and Iceland. BE READY FOR YOUR PRESENTATIONS! Be sure you are including all the elements I have asked you for. Your Europe quiz (to be held on Tuesday, November 15) will include information from the projects, so taking notes might be a good idea...

8th grade: Last week you became acquainted with some of the major Greek City-States (ie Troy, Athens, Sparta) and in the last 15 minutes of class were asked to complete a map of Ancient Greece for tomorrow. This is because we are going to be watching a movie during the next three days which will further explain the divisions between these places, and also what happened when the Persians came to call...the movie is called The 300 Spartans (but don't worry, this is not the move 300 that had so much blood and gore. The 300 Spartans is an older movie, but one with a great amount of information about Ancient Greece.) Thursday and Friday will be spent in the computer lab so you can research for your Ancient Greek Life project, which you will find out more about later in the week! (Hint: you will be presenting it to the class on Tuesday, November 8)

9th grade: Quiz on Monday! Quiz on Monday! Be sure to see my previous post for some hints on what to study. Don't forget your notes page! After the quiz we will be moving on from the Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment (but don't forget them, because we they will show up again on the final exam in December) to the first country to have a revolution, The United Kingdom. We will spend most of our week looking at the elements that led the English to revolt and some of the major players in this period of history (to give you some idea, the English went through 5 or so Kings, a queen or two, and one Lord Protector in the time we're studying this week.) The English revolution really laid the groundwork for the cascade of other revolutions which occurred during this time (and which we will be studying over the next 6 weeks!)

Hope you all have an excellent week!
